A rebuttal to the notion of a fractured American society (YIDFF 2024).

Hatano Shuhei’s I Remember – Japan | 2024 – 224 minutes Section: Japan’s Perspective
Ten individuals stand in front of the camera and speak about their recollections of Tottori prefecture’s land. The video weaves together their recollections of their life from the prewar period to the current day.
The film will be shown on October 9th, 2024, at 16:30 p.m. on Saturday.
Hong Kong Documentary Filmmakers’ Inside the Red Brick Wall – Hong Kong | 2024 – 88 minutes International Competition Section
The “one nation, two systems” approach has shook Hong Kong. Protestors demanding for democratic change are surrounded by heavily armed police in a campus in November 2019. These unidentified filmmakers record the worn-out and worried youngsters who are being beaten into submission by the brutal and clever forces of power in minute detail (YIDFF 2024).

Abdallah Al-Little Khatib’s Palestine: Diary of a Siege – Lebanon, France, Qatar | 2024 – 89 minutes New Asian Currents is a section dedicated to new Asian currents.
In a Palestinian refugee camp in Syria, life is hard. The country’s condition worsens, with highways obstructed and food so limited that people begin to die not just from bombing but also from hunger. They can only put one foot in front of the other since there is no end in sight (YIDFF 2024).

Section: International Competition | Night Shot by Carolina Moscoso Briceo – Chile | 2019 – 80 minutes
The filmmaker was raped as a student, and her case against her rapist ran against the Chilean legal system’s brick wall. When she attempts to reopen it now as an adult, she discovers that the statute of limitations has run out. She composes her unnamable emotions into a sort of journal, starting out on a trip with no apparent exit, filming in the “night shot” mode of her camera. We bore witness to her suffering alongside her at the goal (YIDFF 2024).

Nuclear Family, directed by Erin Wilkerson and Travis Wilkerson and set in the United States and Singapore in 2024, lasts 93 minutes. International Competition Section
The filmmaker, who has been haunted by visions of nuclear war since boyhood, takes his family on visits of nuclear test sites throughout the United States. The video revisits recurrent violence, nuclear and human history, as well as recollections of Native American massacres (YIDFF 2024).

Suzuki Yoi – Japan | 2024 – 80 minutes | Songs Still Sung: Voices from the Tsunami Shores New Asian Currents is a section dedicated to new Asian currents.
The town of Ofunato has been hit by tsunamis three times. As poet Arai Takako listens intently to record their thoughts, the village’s ladies give the community a voice. Tanka (traditional Japanese poetry) and poems written in the Kesen dialect have a strong and varied resonance (YIDFF 2024).

A Mexican island off the coast of the Pacific Ocean. There is no one around, yet there are signs of a thriving past. The past and future collide in the soundscape and amorphous space of what remains, and we, as viewers, are encouraged to join them on a trip beyond time (YIDFF 2024).

Thomas Ash’s Ushiku – Japan | 2024 – 87 minutes Section: Japan’s Perspective
This video exposes the authorities’ violations of human rights based on interviews with foreign nationals held for extended periods of time in the immigration facility in Ushiku city, Ibaraki prefecture. This is investigative journalism at its best, sounding the alarm about government authority gone rogue.
