While this is a fun topic, it is not the subject of the article. But it is a fun topic and I thought I would throw in a little bit of it in there. You all know that I like to play Marvel Runners and the latest update brought out the PPE (Proportions and Powers of Europe) mod to the game. PPE is a mod that gives all of Europe (or any other country you choose) their own powers and abilities. While these abilities are fun and make for some pretty cool games, I also like to see how these abilities stack up against the other Marvel Powers.
Marvel is having a fantastic year with some amazing movies, but there are still some characters that are more popular than others. For example, Thor is one of the best Marvel characters, but he isn’t as popular as some of the others. However, fans are hoping that after the events of Avengers Infinity War, he will be back on top.
Thor and Doctor Strange come from two different realms and have opposite personalities, but they work well together to protect the Earth from the threat of the strange and strange. Thor and Doctor Strange: Who is stronger?
In the Marvel Universe, not every character has the same level of strength or power. Sometimes it’s clear who’s the better fighter and who would win in a battle, while other times it’s a toss-up. Doctor Strange and Thor are both powerful in their own ways, but who is the most powerful?
Thor’s devastating strength and endurance would destroy Doctor Strange in a sudden hand-to-hand battle. Strange, on the other hand, has far too many magical tricks under his sleeve, and it would be difficult for anybody to defeat him, even Thor in his most powerful form, if given enough time to prepare.
Without delving further into their histories, abilities, and character journeys, it’s difficult to choose a side and decide who would prevail. Let’s break it down to obtain a more informed response.
Doctor Strange’s Abilities
To appreciate Doctor Strange’s abilities, you must first grasp who he is and how he came to be Doctor Strange. Stephen Strange was a skilled, world-class surgeon before he became the Sorcerer Supreme.
Due to a horrific automobile accident, he lost contact in his hands one day, prompting him to seek direction and assistance in the mystic arts. His instructor, the Ancient One, informed him that everything was intended to happen, and that he was supposed to come visit her and study the magical arts so that he might become the greatest of them all: the most powerful Sorcerer Supreme and defender of reality ever.
To defend Earth from the most powerful interdimensional dangers, he acquired hundreds of combat arts as well as the use of magic, mystic artifacts, spells, and trickery. So, what does he have the ability to accomplish, and where does his power originate from?
Magic, Spells & Tricks
Doctor Strange is granted abilities by the Vishanti gods in order to preserve Earth and reality. Apart from the abilities granted by his mystical items, such as flying with the Cloak of Levitation or teleporting with the Sling Ring, almost all of his magical abilities come from there.
In terms of his abilities, there is no limit to his spells. He has the ability to generate magical discs as weapons, defensive shields, energy beams, tie even the most powerful opponents in place, access other realms, and so on.
He also possesses universal consciousness, which means he can use meditation to find any creature in the cosmos at any time. Strange can also teleport, utilize astral projection to remove his thoughts and awareness from his body (which he can also do to his opponents), and cast an almost infinite number of spells with an infinite number of effects.
Physical & Mental Abilities
Strange’s physical powers are limited since he is a human, which means he lacks harsh, alien physical strength. He is, however, a master of the mystic arts and is well-trained in over a hundred martial techniques, thus he is more than capable of hand-to-hand battle even without his magic.
However, it is his mental toughness and intellect that distinguishes him from most superheroes, not his physical strength. Even before he began studying the mystic arts, he was a prodigy. As he practiced, his intellect became even stronger.
Strange can make split-second choices and is unstoppable if given enough time to prepare. He battled and defeated some of the universe’s most powerful inter-dimensional creatures, including Dormammu, Galactus, and others.
Manipulation of Time
This ability should fall under the magic & spells category, but I left it out as a separate skill because it’s simply a game-changer. Doctor Strange possesses the Eye of Agamotto that holds the Time Stone.
Strange may use it to travel through time, alter it, freeze it, and so on. That’s what makes him so difficult to defeat. Even when facing the most powerful opponents, his ability to foresee the future, stop time, or rewind the clock is difficult to counter.
Thor and His Abilities
Thor is often considered as the most powerful Avenger. He wields Mjolnir, controls and creates thunder, and is immune to most human illnesses and weapons, giving him god-like abilities. He withstood the entire power of a star falling on his back.
Thor had his debut appearance in Marvel Comics in 1962. Thor Odinson, an Asgardian prince known as the God of Thunder, was developed by Stan Lee, Jack Kirby, and Larry Lieber. So, what is it about him that makes him such a powerful figure in the Marvel Universe?
Using Mjolnir as a weapon
Thor’s magical hammer is known as Mjolnir. It was fashioned from Uru metal by the dwarves of Nidavellir, and Odin, Thor’s father, enchanted it so that only those who are worthy of wielding the hammer may wield Thor’s might.
That implies that when Thor is worthy, Mjolnir gives him the ability to call, control, and manipulate thunder, lightning, and rain, as well as the ability to fly (by spinning the hammer), throw it, and bring it back into his hands like a boomerang.
When he’s worthy, I say, because there have been times when he’s been unworthy of holding Mjolnir, and as a result, he’s lost most of his abilities. After Mjolnir was shattered by his wicked sister, Hela, Thor utilized a new, even more formidable weapon called the Stormbreaker.
Stormbreaker was a combat axe capable of summoning the Bifrost, a cosmic gateway that let Thor to travel across space in the blink of an eye.
Brutal Strength & Resilience
Apart from holding Mjolnir and its abilities, Thor is an Asgardian, not a human. He has tremendous physical strength (he has battled the Hulk, Thanos, and other powerful creatures), but it is his durability that makes him so powerful.
Thor can absorb the most powerful punches, get back up, and continue fighting. He’s also immune to the vast majority of human illnesses. Mjolnir recharges his life energy, allowing him to recover to some extent when he is injured.
He’s extremely strong, quick, and tough, and he understands how to fight. His sole physical flaw, one could argue, is his lack of intellect. Watch Thor: Ragnarok, when he battled the Hulk without his hammer and maintained his own, even knocking him down, to see how powerful he is even without Mjolnir.
Who Will Win in a Battle Between Doctor Strange and Thor?
When given enough time to prepare, Doctor Strange is almost invincible. He just has too many spells and tricks – he can transport Thor to another realm or freeze him in time before harming him. His magic has no bounds.
He is, however, still only a person — a powerful sorcerer, but still a human. His vulnerability is that he requires time to perform his spells, which may be discovered and used against him, as the Ebony Maw did in the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s Avengers: Infinity War.
As a result, it’s not unreasonable to believe that Thor might utilize his speed and strength to catch him off guard and prevent him from ever performing a spell, defeating him with a single blow.
Thor battled the universe’s mightiest creatures, holding his own against the apparently unstoppable Hulk and even Thanos – whom he would have killed if he hadn’t wanted vengeance for Loki and shot for his head (Avengers: Infinity War).
So, given enough preparation time, I think Doctor Strange would prevail, but he wouldn’t be able to kill Thor – he’d have to transfer him to another realm or imprison him in a Mirror universe (a Doctor Strange skill I believe is highly underrated).
If we’re talking about no-holds-barred battle, though, Thor could easily expose Strange’s flaws and destroy him, just as he did with Thanos and other interdimensional creatures.
Is Doctor Strange capable of wielding Thor’s hammer?
You must be worthy to hoist Mjolnir and wield Thor’s abilities. He who is unworthy is incapable of simply moving the hammer, much less using its capabilities. Vision, Magneto, Captain America, and Storm have all been shown to be capable of lifting the hammer.
Lifting the hammer and wielding Thor’s abilities from it are not the same thing, thus not all of them were worthy.
Doctor Strange could utilize magic to raise Mjolnir – for example, he could use his Sling Ring to create a portal under the hammer and lift it that way – but he couldn’t physically lift the hammer, much alone wield Thor’s strength.
Magneto utilized his mutation and metal manipulation to hoist Mjolnir on one occasion, but he was still unworthy of harnessing its powers. If Strange used his powers to raise it, the same thing would happen.
Another Marvel movie is nearly upon us, and this time it’s a standalone movie called Doctor Strange. Both the movie and the character have been a runaway success, as millions of people can attest to. In this movie, we’ll see Benedict Cumberbatch as the Sorcerer Supreme, Stephen Strange. In the comics, he’s a man who was a successful surgeon, but after a car accident, he sees a vision of a world where a dark-skinned man rules the Earth. From that day forward, he’s dedicated his life to fighting that man.. Read more about dr strange vs thor comics and let us know what you think.
